My favorite passage from the speeches we read probably would be from Nelson Mandela, The End of Apatheid. It went "The reward of which we have spoken will and must also be measured by the happiness and welfare of the mothers and fathers of these children, who must walk the earth without fear of being robbed, killed for political or material profit, or spat upon because they are beggars." To me this passage spoke volumes not just to hear him say that to his people in South Africa but i feel like it could hit home with most of us in the United states that we shouldn't discriminate against someone if they don't have has much money as us or aren't as educated most of us are. That we should help one another so that no one should walk in fear of being hurt or worse. an interesting fact about Mr. Mandela would be he had a numerous amount of names given to him some like Madiba, which was given to him by his clan. Also there was Khulu, which meant great, paramount, or grand. One more he had was Tata, which meant father many called him this since he was such a father figure in many of the peoples eyes no matter what age they were.

A link i found that helped me do some research on Nelson Mandela and where he came from:

The Dalai Lama is the man who is supposed of taken over Tibet when the 13th Dalai Lama had Passed away in the early 1930's but since the 14th Dalai Lama was not discovered the Chinese went into Tibet and tried to Liberate them. The 14th Dalai Lama was found in 1939 and could not take over Tibet due to the fact that the Chinese had overtaken it. The Dalai Lama was exiled into India where he currently stays. I feel like The Dalai Lama has every right to have his home back not just for himself but for his people. a interesting fact i found since March of 2011 over 60 Tibetans including monks, nuns, and lay people have set themselves on fire to protest against the Chinese.

I found most of my facts on these two sites.

  1. clear overview to the happenings with the Dalai Lama and China, well done.

Picture looks like one of those classic moments in any movie where the monk has broken silence and shocked every body around to see.

  2. The quote you chose was very similar to the one I chose and i totally agree! Its hard to imagine that, that was pretty common for kids to live that way. Makes you appreciate your life a little more and realize what we have in life we should be thankful for every day.
