I thought the March of Dimes was very interesting. I like how you gave examples of how much a dime could buy. It really put the meaning into perspective.
ReplyDeleteI remember learning about the YMCA and how it affected people's lives last year in my history class. Also for the march of dimes my high school did that every year and this presentation brought back memories of high school for me.
ReplyDeleteI found it to be interesting that 1900 men stayed in the YMCA facility during the depression and only a third of them paid while living there. I think they did a very good job explaining what the YMCA did during this time and why it was so important.
ReplyDeleteI agree with kyle! it was amazing how people didnt have much money during that time period but they still donated money to charitys.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot here, I never knew that the Y.M.C.A took on the role of a Salvation Army during the 1930's. Admirable indeed, just this past summer I traveled to Israel, and I was in Bethlehem which is under the authority of the palestinians, and you know what I found there? A Y.M.C.A, I chuckled with myself when I came upon such a sight, but you still can see how universal this organization is and how its sphere of influence has impacted every part of the world. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the March of Dimes before but I'm glad I finally learned something about it! It's amazing what can be accomplished when many people put their minds, time, and money together. You also see a of unity here in America, everyone pulling their resources together for a common goal, and Praise the Lord that they could accomplish it.
You can tell you two spent quite a bit of time researching. You definitely had a lot of interesting facts. The thing that stood out the most to me about your presentation was just the fact that the YMCA hasn't changed all that much over the years. I also thought that even with Christian included in their name that it was really cool they tried to be all inclusive.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! didn't know that the Y was so active with things happening out side of sports and fitness. Would have been good to hear about things current on both topics like if the Y that housed people was now a hotel and if the March of dimes was still collecting actual dimes now a days, but very nice well presented presentation.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed learning on how the March Of Dimes was started and the reasons behind it, I would have enjoyed to learn more information on how the Y.M.C.A. started and the growth of it from depression to now.
ReplyDeleteI did not realize that the March of Dimes was originally to find a cure for polio. I thought it was incredible that they were able to raise 19 million dollars, that is a huge amount of money. I also found it interesting that the YMCA let people have free memberships, or pay with food. Its amazing how Americans came together during the Great Depression. You could have related the March of Dimes more to the Depression. Very good presentation.
ReplyDeleteIt surprised me that the Y.M.C.A. was more of a charity than the recreational facility we see it as today. They took a little, but still gave a lot, even in the hard times they were in. I did not know that the March of Dimes was started by FDR and they it was created for people with polio.
ReplyDeletei had no idea that there was such a thing called the march of dimes. so i learned that today. however i did like the info on the YMCA and how they really helped Americans in need out a lot. i thought and would like to have known more about the march of dimes. one thing i think you could work on would be to look at your notes so much as you did (march of dimes)other then that GREAT JOB!
ReplyDeleteI find it ironic that a christian organization got its theme song from a gay band. The presentation was efficient in its use of time. Great idea to print handouts to take care of the majority of the background history. Only problem, while it was also a good thing, might have been the presentation's brevity.
ReplyDeleteYou guys certainly gave us a lot of background information with those handouts. That was a good move. That way people can get a lot more info with constricting your time.
