I was not aware that Al Capone gave money to charities, although Professor Lohre revealed that there may have been alterior motives. You guys did a good job, and the only improvement that I could see was somehow comparing prohibition to some modern day equivalents such as marijuana or prescription drugs.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the presentation overall, but I do think it was a little more on the factual side instead of the iconic side. One think i=that I think you guys could work on would be to look at your notes less and be confident in what you are saying. Over all I thought it was good presentation. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that they utilized alcohol to create more jobs for the community. Who would of thought alcohol would make that much of an impact with the money.
ReplyDeleteVery good presentation and informative a lot of different view points on the situation. The only thing i would like to more about would be the rum runners.
ReplyDeleteI didn't hear many reasons why it was iconic. I did learn a lot from the presentation though. You guys did a good job informing us about prohibition.
ReplyDeleteI found the most interesting piece of information is that Al Capone gave to the charities knowing his background and work. I would have enjoyed to learn how the type of prohibition related to modern day events and how the effects are different from then and today.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was a very interesting presentation. Most everyone knows about prohibition and illegal acts due to it. The one thing I was surprised you guys did not present were the speak easies, the bars that were set up during this time.
ReplyDeleteGood presentation. I did not know much about Al Capone and what he did. I found it interesting that he gave some of his money to charities. You may have wanted to practice some more and connect prohibition to the Great Depression more. Good presentation overall.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very interesting that part of repealing the ban on alcohol was due to needed funds. Also, repealing the ban, disregarded many reasons for banning it in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI found your presentatin to be very informative on the prohibition and its repeal. I did not realize that Al Capone donated money to charities. I also din't know that the government repealed it to try and create more jobs.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting how you compared Al Capone to Robin Hood. Only problem with that comparison is that Robin Hood didn't kill people. Good presentation, the only thing I can say, which others might have pointed out is that more info about why the prohibition was iconic could have been useful.
ReplyDeleteI learn a lot about Al Capone and the things he did. I was not aware of the stuff he had done. Also, I like how the 21st amendment was made to limit the alcohol usage. Good presentation.
ReplyDeleteYou guys had some interesting facts. I couldn't help but compare Prohibition with the struggle today over marijuana. It seems to be a reoccurring theme...
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that there was so much history surrounding the Prohibition act or the 18th Amendment. I truly learned a lot and I thank you for your time and efforts here to teach us about such an important point of our American heritage. It blows my mind that there was such a time in our country when we came to the point to abolish alcohol from our country! I find that to be rather neat. Also, I had no idea that Al Capone played such a key role in this point of time, all my previous thoughts of him were just that he was a tommy gun shooter and American gangster. It's equally fascinating that America reacted in such a way to the amending of alcohol! It goes to show us just how huge that industry is and the role it plays in our economy, as well as how we as Americans feel about our alcohol.
