Nick Bailey Intro

My  name is Nick Bailey.  I am 31 years old and roughly midway through my junior year at Ohio State.  I am majoring in Business Management with a General Business specialization.  In addition to going to school I also own a small business that distributes Little Debbie Snack Cakes to local grocery and convenience stores.  I have been married for six years and have three children.  My three children are Madison who is 11 years old, Cole who is 5 years old, and Nolan who is a year old.  I do not have an abundance of free time, but when I find some, I enjoy following the Cleveland Browns.

I found a small article on livestrong.com that gives a cursory review of the causes of smoking addiction.  The article itself doesn't present any earth shattering discoveries on the causes of smoking addiction, but I found a piece of information in the article that contradicts Difranza's essay. At the end of the nicotine section of the article, it states that pleasure is derived from smoking due to the release of chemical dopamine in the brain, caused by nicotine.  Difranza argued that there is no pleasure derived from smoking, just simply a suppression of craving.  Check it out for yourself by clicking the link below.

  1. That is an interesting article you found. I know I would tend to agree with what the article you found said about addiction. The brain has to find some pleasure in the nicotine or else it would not crave it.

  2. I feel that this is a great article on the effects smoking has on addiction. If the brain had no pleasure that the nicotine gave it then there would be no such ting as addiction.

  3. This article is a great way to influence young people not to smoke as the effect of it can damage your health.

  4. This is an interesting article as it makes you think is there more than just being "addicted" to nicotine.

  5. We learned in my Psychology class how nicotine affects your neurotransmitters. It does increases the amount of dopamine released into your neural synapses but contradictorily as it excites your neural pathways it relaxes the muscles in your body. Though I think the craving has a lot more to do with the addiction than the pleasure nicotine gives.
